What to Wear: Backyard BBQ

The sunny weather hit, so the hubby and I went to a BBQ with friends (fun!!). For a casual BBQ in the backyard, keep it simple! I know not everyone feels “at home” in a romper, but I absolutely love this one from GUESS. If you’re not jumping for jumpers, try an easy maxi dress, tee shirt and shorts combo, or those ratty old cut offs you wore while painting the house last summer. Go with the vibe of the party… Casual neighborhood thing? Keep it that way! BBQ at the pool? Wear a swim suit and a bright coverup. You get it; this is so easy!

20130428-225327.jpg Hats are perfect because they protect your beautiful eyes from the sun (prevent those crows feet!!), and you don’t have to worry about your hair – fabulous! I get a lot of questions about this monogram necklace. It’s Nashelle, and they make FANTASTIC jewelry. Get yours in the “Build Your Own” section of the website. The photo (above right) is a close up of my actual necklace.

Wear your sunscreen too!

“You Look Like a Rocker Girl Today!”

My friends said “You look like a rocker girl today!” This outfit was DEFINITELY werkin’!!! (“Werk” with an “e” because it’s more fierce than just ‘work.’) I told you I’d post my outfit with the Skylar Earrings that I got from my special day with Kendra Scott. Here it is!!!

20130426-085427.jpg
Above: EARRINGS: Kendra Scott, Skylar in Slate // JACKET: Leather moto jacket I found at a great shop in Rome, Italy! You can find plenty of style stealers at Zara // SHIRT: Target // PANTS: Old Navy, Rockstar in Curry // SHOES: Target // PURSE: Michael Kors, Bedford Satchel.

Celebs love these earrings too…

Below: Celebrity Maria Menounos wearing the exact same earrings! (Alongside fashion mogul Rachel Zoe.)

20130426-093326.jpg

I am crazy about these hidden-wedge, hi-top sneakers! It’s easy to rock these, as long as you have the right outfit. Most celebs wear the famous Isabelle Marant “Bekkett” hidden wedge sneaker, which cost $640.00 (net-a-porter.com). Not kidding on the price tag! Mine were $24.00 at Target, and look nearly identical, plus they are SO COMFORTABLE! I walk around all day in them. Check out some celebs in the original Isabelle Marant kicks…

20130426-093018.jpg Above: Miranda Kerr, Julianne Moore, Hilary Duff (I adore her!), and Anne Hathaway.

Consider this a celeb look for less post, because the hidden wedges I’m wearing look just like the celebs’ and they are super comfy. Enjoy this trend!

Meeting Jewelry Designer Kendra Scott!!!

20130425-090404.jpg I GOT TO MEET AND CHAT WITH KENDRA SCOTT! Yes, she IS this gorgeous in person (actually even prettier), yes, she is extremely kind and gracious, and YES of course I left with new earrings! It was an honor to be invited to meet her. Kendra’s ENTIRE staff at headquarters (Austin, TX) saw, read and loved the blog post I wrote about her store opening. In case you missed my writing and photos about her Newport Beach store opening last week, click HERE.

Let’s get to the goods: THE JEWELRY!!! To meet Kendra in person I wore the logo-fabulous Dawn Medallion earrings in gold, and Harlow necklace in white. We talked about her beautiful store, her great brand, and her upcoming plans. I absolutely LOVE her! She autographed one of my jewelry pouches, and we got some photos together too. (SO FUN!)

Below: Upper-left, Sky Earrings in Slate // Bottom-Right, Stella Earrings in Coral // Upper-Right, Kendra and Me!

20130425-093949.jpgSky will be posted with a rocker vibe outfit soon. You’ll have to wait until May for Stella because I plan to wear those to an event, which I will post then. I’m excited to wear those coral beauties!

Kendra Scott’s business philosophy is “Family, Fashion & Philanthropy” and her jewelry is worn by countless celebs like Sofia Vergara, Hillary Duff, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria and more. She has a multi-million dollar business that started with just $500 to launch a mini jewelry collection. She’s amazing, and her stores are too!

Keep it here with Fashion. Beauty. Sisters.

Pinspiration: Nautical!

A fun outfit on Pinterest inspired this nautical look. Instead of a short-sleeve tee, I wore a long sleeve, added accessories and did a red short instead of white. My look was for a night out at a tepanyaki restaurant. It was fun, and I enjoyed this outfit!

20130424-213121.jpg Above: JEWELRY: Kedra Scott, Dawn Medallion Earrings and Harlow Necklace // SHIRT: J Crew // SHORTS: A&F // SHOES: Yvanka Trump.

Below is the pin I saw on Pinterest that “Pinspired” this my outfit.

20130424-213228.jpg
I love this look for a casual, vacation day. I will definitely do this outfit with the white shorts during beach season.

*Tip on finding J Crew pieces at prices that won’t break the bank: e bay!!! Be sure your item is authentic in order to get the great J Crew quality we all know and love.

Celeb Look for Less: Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria (once again) looks fabulous running errands around town!! Here’s the Celebrity Look for Less that I threw together. *REMEMBER: I only use pieces that I already have in my closet for Celeb Look for Less; I don’t buy new things for it. I hope it gives you fun ideas for how to remix your wardrobe, and look like a star too!

20130424-071310.jpg
I’m so happy with how well-matched the outfit came out! Details (prices approximate)… SHIRT: Old Navy, $13 // PANTS: Bebe, Matte Coated Zipper Skinny Jean, $129 full price, but I bought them on sale, with a promotional discount, and gift card, so they were much cheaper (always work a deal, ladies!!) // SHOES: Ivanka Trump, wedge sandal, $135 full price, but again working the deal, I found them at both on amazon.com and DSW for $40.00. // ACCESSORIES: Glasses, Dior. Earrings, Kendra Scott, Heather Earrings in Slate.

Pinterest Pick of the Week 2

Pinterest Pick of the Week 2

Hello again readers! Your Pinterest Pick of the Week is here again with my second pin. A couple of days ago, Sara and I were talking about how the 60’s business casual trend (like seen in the show Mad Men) was coming back into style. And what a coincidence that while scrolling through the feeds, I find this lovely pin of 60’s inspired ensembles. Not only that, but Banana Republic is also starting a line of Mad Men inspired clothing for women that is a take of the 60’s look. Love it!

It is a classy look that is absolutely adorable. It has the serious, get down to business feel, but still looks feminine and very stylish. The looks in the pin I have picked are cute and modest, and definitely have the 60’s feel. And the best part is that it doesn’t look too retro where it looks like you’re trying to go vintage because it has the perfect amount of a modern take in it as well. I don’t know about you, but I am on the 60’s fashion comeback train! Enjoy the pin and check out our Pinterest account if you would like the link for the Banana Republic line or want to see more of our pins.

Till next time Fashionistas,

Laura

What to Wear: Cold Trip to the Mountains

20130420-180050.jpg
My husband and I went up to the mountains. It was sunny, but COLD!!! If you’re in the mountains, you can look chic, while maintaining great comfort and practicality. Put a warm vest over some flannel and jeans, and you’re there! Easy as 1, 2, 3. The key is not to wear tons of baggy clothes – you’ll lose any feminine shape, and look messy. For more chilling climates, I recommend the Columbia omni-tech 3 in 1 jackets. I LOVE them (countless features)! Columbia makes their jackets with a little extra length in the back; an invaluable quality in cold weather! I find competitors’ jackets to be cute in appearance, but lacking in overall versatility and length in comparison to the Columbia ones. (That’s just personal preference!)

I love being outdoors. What are your favorite wardrobe essentials to bring on your ski and snowboard trips? Keep warm, and don’t forget to bring warmer clothes for nighttime. Be smart about weather and attire!

Chiffon Dress // Day & Night

20130419-075101.jpg
Above: Dress: Forever 21, hi-lo chiffon leopard tank dress, Necklace: J Crew, bubble necklace in Kelly green, Shoes: Steve Madden, Tampaa in black.

This was a really fun day dress! To shift into evening I added the J Crew Bubble necklace*, and revamped the hair and make up a little. I had a work event, and people went wild for this outfit (no pun intended). It’s so easy to pump up an inexpensive dress from Forever 21 with some fab accessories and styling. The necklace was the perfect pop of color. I had to walk all night, so wedges were the clear choice!

20130419-083401.jpg

20130419-083407.jpg
Hope this gives you some ideas for your next day dress look. What are your favorite accessories to take an outfit from cute to FAB?

20130419-081928.jpg
*J Crew Bubble necklace: I have one of these from amazon.com, and one authentic J Crew (pictured above). Get the real one, it’s WORTH IT! My other one is pretty, but it doesn’t even compare in quality. I’m all for a great “replica”- but I have yet to see a good one of this piece. If you don’t want to pay the hefty price tag on this necklace, get it barely used and truly authentic on eBay. That’s what I did! It was a steal! In case you want to know the giveaway of the imitations on eBay: the hardware holding the bubbles on. It’s a different shape than the J Crew hardware.

Spring/Summer Nail Polish!

It’s official: I have picked my 2013 spring/summer FAVORITE nail polish color. “Come Here!” by Essie. It’s a bright cross between coral, pink and orange. “Come Here!” looks fun and cute on my tan toes, and I think it would great on any skin color. It is one of the colors from their Spring 2013 Resort Collection. I love Essie because it’s great quality, has vibrant colors, and is 3-free (meanings it’s made without the 3 major toxins used in most basic nail polishes- DPB, Formaldehyde*, and Toulene). So yes, for you all-natural people and expectant mothers, Essie has moved their formulas to be safe for all.

Go get your “Come Here!” at any major drug store or beauty supply store.

*Formaldehyde isn’t actually used in nail polish colors, it’s used in nail polish hardeners. I don’t use beauty products with this chemical in them. That’s a whole separate blog post in itself!

Kendra Scott, Newport Store Opening

20130415-233626.jpg KENDRA SCOTT IS OFFICIALLY IN NEWPORT, AND I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO BE THE VERY FIRST CUSTOMER IN THE STORE AS SOON AS IT OPENED! Congrats Kendra Scott to you and your entire team- the store is STUNNING!!! I’m pictured above with the GORGEOUS KS staff at the Newport store. Of course I wore my Danielle earrings. When visiting a designer, it’s only proper fashion etiquette that you wear his or her pieces. The staff was so sweet. They had breakfast pastries and mimosas ready, paired with SUPERB customer service. Shopping at this store is a dream.

I have a few pics of the store details in this collage, but you HAVE to visit for yourself. They have the most gorgeous, clean, and fabulous display cases, layout and vibe. It is 100% true to the KS brand!

20130415-234113.jpg
The Harlow necklace in white is a reward I got myself for recently reaching some big, personal goals and achievements. It made it SO much more exciting and gratifying. Harlow is a celebrity favorite (I personally love Hillary Duff in her green one). I’m also showing my new Dawn Medallion earrings. These are the PERFECT everyday earring. They can be dressed up or down (as it is with ALL KS pieces).

20130415-234657.jpg

I find Kendra Scott jewelry to be the highest quality, beautiful designs and so AMAZING to wear. It always takes great photos, and her pieces match with every outfit. You can’t go wrong. This store has an amazing color bar, gorgeous light barn wood flooring, insanely beautiful entry way and a awesome sitting area. You can see I also fell in love with the Allison earrings in purple, so they left with me. I picture wearing them on vacation, in a dress by the water, with a pony tail in my hair to let them sway around. They are so fun and happy-go-lucky! I love the rich color too.

And of course, for you fashionistas out there…today’s Kendra Scott store opening day outfit:

Coral Dress // Day & Night

I got a great question last week: Where do I buy day dresses? My favorite stores for day dresses are: Forever 21 (inexpensive & trendy), Ardeb B. (if you hit a good sale you can really strike fashion gold), Bebe (pricey, but the quality is BEYOND) and Loehmann’s (I’m a BARGAIN HUNTER so this is my mother-ship; best high-end brands for unbeatable prices).

Here’s the maxi look I wore on Friday in Beverly Hills & LA. I had a dance competition for all my awesome dance teams. My outfit had to be comfortable and functional! The key to daily style is mixing inexpensive pieces with high end pieces to make a complete, fab look.

20130414-215531.jpg
After running around ALL day, and getting all of our dancers situated it was time for evening competition. I took the hair down and volumized to change it up for a night look.

20130414-215648.jpg
These earrings are AWESOME with so many different outfits. I always feel glam in them!!! Kendra Scott is easily my favorite jewelry designer. Here’s a pic of the Danielle earrings from her blog (this is not my photo- visit blog.kendrascott.com) KENDRA SCOTT WEBSITE HERE

20130414-215908.jpg
Lisa Vanderpump (RHOBH) has these earrings too! Here are my white mother of pearl earrings up close.

20130414-220006.jpg
Be sure to tell me some of your favorite day dress looks! I love seeing how people put their fashions together. And WERK the look!

P.S. For those of you wondering, my dance teams all did amazing and placed in top 3!

Date Night: WHITE HOT!

Looking for a fresh take on an outfit for date night? I had fun with this look last week for my date (with my one and only hubby of course). If you’re going on a first date I always recommend a great LBD, there are ways to dress it up or down depending on where you’re going… Once time passes and you’re switching up the look, get fun with some new ideas. ALWAYS remember that the best look on a lady is joy and self-confidence, and your most fabulous accessories are your SMILE and sincerity.

20130410-233355.jpg
The pants are WHITE white, while the top is a light eggshell color. The strappy heels are a white snake skin print (faux skin).

What is your favorite date night outfit?
